Q: How long does gonorrhea take to recover?
A: If you think you have gonorrhea, go to the nursing station and get tested. If you have it, they will give you medicine, usually as a pill. You will start feeling better in about a week, but the swelling might take longer to go down. Also it’s really important to go and get treated at the nursing station as soon as you think you might have it, because if you don’t treat gonorrhea it can cause permanent damage!
Q: I didn’t use a condom the last time I had sex or my first time ever. Am I healthy?
A: To find out if you're still healthy, go to the nursing station. Ask for a pregnancy test and get tested for an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) Anytime you have sex without a condom, there is a risk of getting an STI. They'll find out with a urine test (pee test) or by taking a swab of your genitals (private parts) with a Q-tip. There is also a chance that the girl may have gotten pregnant, so (if that's you) it would be a good idea to get a pregnancy test.
Q: If I was pregnant, would I be safe to eat something that has sugar in it?
A: Yes, sugar is okay when you’re pregnant. But keep in mind that anything you eat, the baby also “eats”, so try your best to eat a healthy diet! What is not okay is alcohol and smoking cigarettes. Both of these can really hurt the baby.
Q: When I have sex and I bleed, what does that mean?
A: There is a thin tissue that partly covers the vagina, called the “hymen”. If someone is having sex for the first time, or even the first couple of times, this tissue might rip and bleed. This is okay! The hymen is not needed for anything, and for some women it might rip before they start having sex, like during sports.
Q: If I had an STD without knowing it, how long would it take for it to prevent me having a baby?
A: It is hard to say how long it would take a STI to permanently damage your reproductive system (organs for making a baby) so that you could not have a baby in the future. The best thing you can do is to go get tested at the nursing station; many STIs are treatable! However, if they are not treated, some STIs like chlamydia can cause permanent damage to things like your fallopian tubes that can make getting pregnant very difficult or impossible.
Q: What does plan B do? Does it destroy anything?
A: No it does not! Plan B overloads your system with hormones (chemical signals that your brain sends out to control your body) so that the man's sperm and the woman's egg can't join. If they can't join, there's no baby.
Q: If sperm goes in the wrong spot, can it kill someone?
A: No, sperm is harmless; this means it cannot kill or hurt anyone. The only time sperm could hurt someone is if the man had a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), which can be passed to people through sperm.
Q: If I use birth control, can it kill me?
A: No, birth control cannot kill you. Birth control (condoms, "the Pill" etc. ) is totally safe!
Q: How can the condom break when people are having sex?
A: There are a couple of reasons why a condom might break:
1.If it was not stored properly, the latex might rip more easily. Condoms should be kept in a cool, dry place and not in a wallet or pocket! This creates friction, which can make it tear more easily.
2. If it was expired
3. If not enough lubricant (something that keeps the slippery-ness) was used, this creates friction (rubbing) that could rip the condom.
4. If you don't pinch the tip of the condom when you put it on, there will be no space at the top for the semen. When a man ejaculates, the condom will break just like a full balloon would, because there is nowhere for the semen(cum) to go. It's important to leave space at the end of the condom when you put it on so that there's room for the semen!
5.If you use oil based lubricants (like vaseline, butter, cooking oil) this could ruin the condom, and it could break.
Q: Why do people have sex?
A: People have sex to make a baby or because they enjoy it.
Q: Why do girls get their periods?
A: Every 28 days or so, a woman releases an egg from her ovaries. While this is happening the uterus is adding extra layers. If sperm gets into the vagina, the sperm and the egg will join to make a baby. If there's no sperm, the body doesn't need the old egg or the extra layers, so the uterus will be cleaned out, and a mixture of blood, tissue and fluid will leave the vagina. This is called menstruation, or having your period. If a girl is pregnant she will not have her period.
Q: Is the first menstruation (getting your period) painful?
A: No it doesn’t hurt! You might get some small stomach pains or cramps, but they’re nothing to worry about!
Q: If a mother is breastfeeding and drinking alcohol, is it bad for the baby?
A: Yes it is. The alcohol can go into the mother's breastmilk and the baby will end up drinking the alcohol. Alcohol is very bad for babies because their brains and bodies are growing.
